Dean Vandewalle

Rider Info

Dean Vandewalle was born in January 8th 2002 in Ghent, Belgium. When he was 7, his family moved to Costa Rica. He now calls home spots such as Tamarindo, Langosta, Playa Negra etc. and take trips to great waves in Pavones, The Caribbean, Ollies point, Witches Rock etc. His friends call him Deano.

The first time he was on a surfboard, Deano was only two years old. His dad took him out, pushed him into small, little waves, and as a team, they got better with every wave. He got his first surfboard when he was 9 and fired him up; he surfed everyday, competed a bunch and ended up winning his first contest of the Costa Rican National Circuit.

From Costa Rica to France, he competes with the best but he had to overcome his poor eyesight in order to improve; that was when his dad made custom prescription glasses to wear in the water, which helped Deano get much better out in the water.

He is part of the International Hurley global grommets team and a part of the Pukas Team, eager to enjoy every bit of it.
