Axel Lorentz to honor legendary Mr. Ben Aipa in the ICONS of FOAM in San Diego, CA.

Axel Lorentz (41) lives in Bidart (La Cote Basque), France. He is a resident shaper at Pukas Surf and will honor legendary Hawaiian surfer, shaper, waterman Mr. Ben Aipa in the Icons of Foam Tribute to the Masters Shaping Competition in San Diego, California.

“As a result of my work I have been granted a spot for the “ICONS OF FOAM” in San Diego, California. It’s pretty heavy and I feel honored to be part of that competition”, says Axel Lorentz.

During the shaping contest, six shapers will each receive 1.5 hours in the shaping bay as they attempt to replicate a classic Ben Aipa shape. Axel will bring in his own tools and the organization will provide the blank & the outline template.

The shapers will only be able to measure and/or touch the board during their allotted 1.5 hours in the shaping bay — which is strictly timed. Ben Aipa then judges the anonymous blanks, along with his sons Duke and Akila.

The winning shaper receives $1K and their name etched on to the MIKE MARSHALL PERPETUAL TROPHY alongside past winners Ricky Carroll, Pat Rawson, Marc Andreini, Wayne Rich, Matt Biolos, Ward Coffey, Stu Kenson, & Matt Calvani.
