Pukas Surfboards and Grant “Twiggy” Baker have joined forces to tackle the biggest waves in Europe for the upcoming years. Discussing on how to go forward on making better boards and sharing the vision has resulted on a quiver of heavy weight boards for massive waves from 9′ to 12′ shaped by Mikel Agote. The partnership pursues “to get european big wave surfers and the guy who wants to test his own personal limits in big waves the best possible equipment”, says Twiggy.
Twiggy (Durban, South Africa, 1973) has been in the front row of big wave surfing since his breakthrough win in Mavericks in 2006. Ever since, the SouthAfrican has been a standout at every big wave scenario and has won back to back 2014 BWWT events this season; the Punta Galea Challenge in the Basque Country (Spain) and the Mavericks Invitational in NorCal (USA). Regarding his upcoming European approach, Twiggy states that “seen what a great family orientated business Pukas is, how much care and love they put into their product just made me even more stoked.”

Paddle-in the tallest Belharra, biggest Punta Galea, most perfect Meñakoz, greatest Ghetary or gnarliest Nazaré (Portugal). That’s what this partnership wants. It’s now more accessible than ever with a tested quiver, including:
– 9’0″ x 21′ x 3 1/2 at 10,0 kilos
– 10’0″ x 21′ 9/16″ x 3 3/4 at 12,0 kilos
– 11’6″ x 22′ 9/16″ x 4 1/16 at 15,5 kilos
Pukas and Twiggy agreed to have Mikel Agote as the official shaper for this iconic collaboration. Mikel, a big wave charger himself, talks the same language when it comes down to heavy surf. He is an experienced big wave charger from the Basque Country who loves to paddle-in the biggest stuff, he is a home-based shaper for Pukas, has developed the best-seller Pukas Foamball with Aritz Aranburu and totally understood Twiggy’s designs.
“This board has a V bottom and have a wider outline, just like Twiggy likes” says Mikel Agote. “Fins are placed in order to ease the movement of such big boards. Twiggy likes to ride big boards on a thruster (3 fins) with his Future Twig model, but just because there is a bunch of riders who like it better on 4 fins, we have place both posibilites with 5 boxes of Futures”. Mikel continues “the board has a flatter rocker with full rails and following his word, we have calculated the exact weight for each behemoths. The glass work on each of these boards is insane”.
