Gabriel won all three australian heavy-weights during the Quik Pro Gold Coast; Mick Fanning in the Quarters, Taj Burrow in the Semis and Joel Parkinson in the Final.
In the Semis, Gabriel maintained his trend of come-from-behind performances and detonated a buzzer-beating score against Taj Burrow that would not be soon forgotten. Not holding priority and taking off on a medium sized wave, the brazilian prodigy linked super powerful maneuvers with impressive flow and skill to top Taj by just a 0.03 point margin.
During the final, Gabriel didn’t find the rhythm until the 5 minute mark. The goofy-footer would decimate a long Snapper Wall for an 8.50 and back the ride up with little time remaining, securing the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast victory over the local veteran Joel Parkinson.
Medina’s historic victory makes him the second goofy-footer ever to win the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast and said that “this win goes to all the goofy footers in the world”.
